Fine Dining restaurants in Rotterdam are totally hot these days, but what exactly is fine dining? In our opinion, it is a restaurant experience where you typically eat out in a more refined and unique way. Generally, fine dining is also more expensive dining out, but in most cases well worth the extra pennies. In Rotterdam you will find several gems where you can enjoy an excellent fine dining experience. Are you curious? These are our 10 favorite fine dining restaurants in Rotterdam!
1. Restaurant Tres
Stipend number one for us is Restaurant Tres. An evening dining out at Tres is a very special and very culinary experience. Every season we work with a menu of which all the ingredients come from the Netherlands. And neither time nor effort is spared to create the most creative dishes on their own premises. Some dishes even take months (!) before they can be served. Indeed, at Restaurant Tres they work in 3 steps: from technique, to taste, to a beautiful dish that is a picture to serve. We can guarantee you that a visit to Restaurant Tres guarantees a true taste explosion, because the food here is so good!
Please note that only 12 guests can be seated in the restaurant per setting. There is a set menu per season consisting of 18 servings that you can expand with a matching (non-)alcoholic menu. The spring, summer and autumn menu costs €165 per person and the winter menu costs €185 per person.
2. Ají
If, like us, you love foreign influences and flavors in cooking, then Ají an absolute must for you. At Ají, all dishes are inspired by chef Pelle Swinkels' travels and discoveries. With his interesting compositions of ingredients, he takes you on a gastronomic journey through Asia and South America throughout the evening. The starters and entremets on the menu are fun courses to share with the table, a bit like the shared-dining concept. But of course, this is not necessary. Want to go for the ultimate experience? Then opt for the four- or five-course chef's menu.
3. Japanese Cuisine Yama
A restaurant that many a Rotterdam resident, but certainly beyond, is often on the waiting list for is Cuisine Yama. It so happens that this restaurant cannot serve more than 8 people in an evening. And since the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star last year (2023), you can probably imagine that Cuisine Yama is in high demand among fine dining lovers. At Cuisine Yama, you will enjoy an omakase dinner prepared right before your eyes. You are undoubtedly familiar with Japanese cuisine, but not as you will taste it here. Experience it for yourself and enjoy the insane Yama's Tasting Menu. This menu consists of 8 courses and costs €220 per person, excluding drinks.
4. The Sailor and The Girl
Katendrecht has some insane restaurants and one of our favorite spots is The Sailor and The Girl. This restaurant, which uses the table d'hôtes concept, is a fantastic place where you can enjoy fine dining in a cozy and intimate setting. By the way, the d'hôtes concept means that you eat what the pot calls for, and in the case of The Sailor and The Girl this is a 4 or 5 course menu. The dishes are French and prepared with fresh and seasonal produce.
5. MARA restaurant
A restaurant in Rotterdam you probably haven't heard of very often is MARA, high time to change that. Why? Because this is a hot spot where you can order classic French dishes with a modern twist. During a night out, let Florian van Dillen and his team pamper you completely and enjoy elegant dishes and interesting flavor combinations. Then end your evening in style with a visit to cocktail bar On The Rockx.
6. The Harmony
There are few restaurants where you can sample a 23-course menu, but one of them is The Harmony in Rotterdam. Of course, there is also the option to eat a la carte, but de Harmonie is all about the ultimate experience. And you only get that when you choose this extensive menu. You will be amazed by bite after bite of the flavors and finesse of the dishes. Every time, it is a picture that is presented to you.
7. Joelia, by Mario
For some time now, the Rotterdam hotspot has Joelia a Michelin star, but that is not necessarily the reason why we included the restaurant in our list of favorite fine dining restaurants in Rotterdam. Eating out at Joelia is not something you do lightly, you take the time to enjoy deliciously refined dishes, but of course also the impressive decor and your company. At Joelia you can choose the menu perserverance at €149 per person or you can choose to eat à la carte. We know what we would do, but what do you choose?
8. The Millèn
Feel free to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner, you can at The Millèn in Rotterdam. A place that, once you've been here, you'll love to return to every month to sample the updated menu. You can find The Millen in the iconic Millennium Tower opposite Rotterdam Central on the second floor of the Marriott Hotel. Fine surroundings and a sleekly decorated restaurant with a beautiful view. It is a place for foodies and lovers of culinary delights.
9. YANO
Say you YANO, then you are talking about the ultimate class of fine dining. It is the hotspot in Rotterdam where fine dining has been taken to a higher level. Among other things by serving dishes with original flavor combinations that reflect both the Indonesian roots and Scandinavian background of the owners. And the nice thing is, the dishes are recognizable for everyone, but made unique and more beautiful by some small adjustments.
10. Héroine
One restaurant you really want to have eaten at once is Héroine. Not only because of the outstandingly good menu, but also because of the fine ambiance in the restaurant. The industrial decor and retro interior are to put through a ring. At this Rotterdam hotspot they serve a 5- or 7-course menu that has been put together with much passion and love by chef Michael Schook. You can expand the menu with a tasty cheese selection, and of course with a matching wine pairing. Are you interested in something more exclusive?
