Practical Travel Tips for Tanzania
Planning a road trip through Tanzania is incredibly fun, but where do you start? Let us help you get started by answering the most frequently asked questions about Tanzania.
Where is Tanzania located in Africa?
Tanzania is located on the east coast of Africa and shares borders with several countries, the best known of which are Kenya and Uganda. The country has an extensive coastline along the Indian Ocean with several islands, such as Zanzibar, about 20 kilometers off the coast.
What are the most famous game reserves in Tanzania for taking a safari?
If there is one thing Tanzania is known for, it is its many magnificent game reserves and national parks. Some of the most famous game reserves in Tanzania are:
- Serengeti National Park: This is Tanzania’s most famous wildlife reserve. The Serengeti consists of vast savannas where you can spot an incredible number of wild animals and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the famous annual migration of wildebeests and zebras.
- Ngorongoro Conservation Area: The Ngorongoro Crater is a massive collapsed volcano that has become home to many wild animals. Because of its natural barrier, which makes it difficult for animals such as giraffes and elephants to enter and exit, the concentration of wildlife here is very high.
- Tarangire National Park: This park is known for its large herds of elephants and impressive baobab trees.
Other beautiful game reserves in Tanzania to consider visiting are: Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha National Park and Mikumi National Park.
How much time do I need for a trip around Tanzania?
How long you need for a trip through Tanzania depends on what you want to see and do. If you’re mainly interested in going on safari, two weeks is plenty of time to visit several national parks and wildlife areas. Want to see more of the country? We recommend allowing around three weeks to experience Tanzania at a more relaxed pace.
