If you want to stay in the historic heart of the city, choose accommodation in The Old Town. Also, if you stay in New Town, you'll be close to the sights. Other nice neighborhoods include Leith, Stockbridge, Morningside and Bruntsfield.\u00a0<\/p><p>Leith is a bustling harbor district with a rich history and many restaurants and bars.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">The charming Stockbridge neighborhood is known for its trendy boutiques, cozy cafes and beautiful Victorian houses. It is the ideal place for a relaxing stay. The residential areas of Morningside and Bruntsfield are quietly located in the south of the city. Here you will find many local boutiques, trendy coffee shops and parks with lots of greenery. Both neighborhoods are well connected to the city center via public transportation. Walking to the center is also doable (about 20 minutes). We stayed at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/gb\/bruntsfieldhotel.en.html?aid=1543033&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruntsfield Hotel<\/a><\/strong> in the neighborhood of the same name. Grassmarket<\/h3><p>The Grassmarket, in the heart of the Old Town, is one of the most picturesque and lively parts of the city. In particular, you will find many cozy pubs in this square. One of them is very special, and that is The White Hart Inn. This is in fact the oldest pub in Edinburgh. It was opened in 1516 and still functions today as a pub under the same name. But also The Last Drop is a cozy pub at the Grassmarket, also one of our favorite pubs in Edinburgh where you can drink a delicious pint among the Victoria Street\u00a0<\/h3><p>Near the Grassmarket you will find Victoria Street. This is without a doubt one of the most photographed streets in Edinburgh. The colorful, historic buildings are a sight to behold. But what the street is really known for is Harry Potter. In fact, the streetscape of Victoria Street was one of the biggest sources of inspiration for J.K. Rowling and the idea of Harry Potter was born here.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Victoria Street is home to a number of souvenir stores and cozy pubs. Greyfriars Kirkyard &amp; Greyfriars Bobby<\/h3><p>It may be extraordinary that we mention a cemetery as one of the most beautiful sights in Edinburgh. But we'll tell you why! Greyfriars Kirkyard is an ancient cemetery in The Old Town and is special for several reasons. At first glance, it looks like a normal cemetery, until you look closely at the headstones.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">In fact, J.K. Rowling based several Harry Potter characters on random names on these tombstones. You will find familiar names such as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Thomas Riddle (Lord Voldemort), William McGonagall and Elizabeth Moodie.<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">But there is another reason why Greyfriars Kirkyard is special and that is Greyfriars Bobby. The most famous breed of dog in Scotland is the Skye Terrier and the most talked about; that is Greyfriars Bobby. This little dog became famous because after his owner died, he spent the rest of his life watching over his owner's grave (for 14 years!). With this, Bobby was the inspiration for several books and movies. The statue can be found in front of the cemetery.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">And why Bobby's nose was damaged? Dean Village<\/h3><p>One place in Edinburgh that is becoming increasingly popular is Dean Village. This picturesque spot was an independent neighborhood in the shadow of Edinburgh until the 19th century. It was also known as The Water of Leith Village, since it is right on the River Leith.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Dean Village has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It was once an important industrial district, with several mills powered by the river. Many of the original buildings and architecture from this era can still be seen in the neighborhood. Therefore, the architecture is definitely worth admiring!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">The houses are built with local stone and have charming details such as stone arches and turrets.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">You can also take a nice walk along the waters of the River Leith.
