With crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and an abundance of marine life, the island is a true paradise for snorkelers and divers. What makes snorkeling on Bonaire so unique is the easy access: in most places, you can simply walk into the sea from the beach. Especially along the sheltered west coast, you'll find countless snorkeling and diving spots, ideal for both beginners and experienced divers. Whether you're spotting sea turtles, exploring coral gardens, or floating above schools of tropical fish, the underwater adventures here are unforgettable.<\/p>

What makes it even more special? More than twenty percent of Bonaire and one hundred percent of the water around the island and Klein Bonaire is protected as a National Park. The Bonaire National Marine Park, the oldest marine reserve in the world, extends from the high tide line to a depth of sixty meters and covers no less than 2,600 acres of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove areas. You'll spot all kinds of fish, rays, sea urchins and sea turtles. So just imagine how incredible it is to explore all that beauty beneath the surface!\u00a0<\/p>

Tip<\/strong>: My personal favorite snorkeling spot on Bonaire is 1000 Steps. Despite the name, it\u2019s \u201conly\u201d about 67 steps down to the beach, but once you're in the water, you're treated to one of the island\u2019s most beautiful coral reefs. The visibility is fantastic, and there\u2019s a good chance you\u2019ll spot sea turtles gliding by. Bringing a GoPro? Definitely take it with you. A visit to Klein Bonaire is a must during your stay on the island. This uninhabited gem lies just a few kilometers off the coast and is a true paradise for peace seekers, snorkelers, and nature lovers. You can reach the island in just 20 minutes with a water taxi, which runs several times a day from Kralendijk. Another option is to take a boat trip to Klein Bonaire, for example with Aqua Fun Bonaire<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

Klein Bonaire is famous for its serene white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters. While snorkeling, there\u2019s a good chance you\u2019ll spot sea turtles gliding gracefully through the water. Don\u2019t forget to bring your snorkeling gear, because the coral reefs around the island are teeming with colorful fish and other fascinating marine life. Even if you\u2019re not snorkeling, Klein Bonaire is a wonderful place to unwind, soak up the sun, and experience the untouched beauty of the Caribbean. Located along the south coast, on the road to Washington Slagbaai National Park, these centuries-old salt fields have been used for salt production for generations. The salt flats create a stunning, colorful landscape where the vibrant pink water contrasts beautifully with the white salt mountains and surrounding nature. The striking pink color comes from special microorganisms that thrive in the salty water, making Bonaire\u2019s salt pans a unique and picturesque sight to explore.<\/p>

Bonaire\u2019s salt pans have played a crucial role in the island\u2019s economy for centuries, but they also carry a darker history. During the era of slavery, enslaved people were forced to perform grueling labor in the salt industry. Near the salt pans, you can still find the so-called \u201cslave houses\u201d, small, simple huts where the slaves who worked at the salt flats slept, often crowded together in harsh conditions. Bonaire is a true hotspot for windsurfers, and Sorobon Beach is especially popular thanks to its calm lagoon surrounded by mangroves and protected by a natural coral barrier. While it\u2019s perfect for lounging during the day, dining here at night is, in my opinion, truly something special, with the gentle sounds of the bay and a magical ambiance that makes every meal unforgettable.<\/p>

Here, you\u2019ll find the quintessential Bonairean scene: vast landscapes dotted with kadushi cacti and elegant flamingos! Lake Goto, located in northwestern Bonaire, is one of the best spots to see flamingos in the wild. Set against a stunning backdrop of cacti and rolling hills, this saltwater lake serves as an important breeding ground for these iconic pink birds. For the best chance to see large flocks gracefully wading through the shallow waters in search of food, visit in the early morning or late afternoon.<\/p>

Make sure to stop at the lookout point along the road for a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Goto and its colorful inhabitants. Don\u2019t forget your camera, this spot is one of the most photogenic places on Bonaire! Just remember to keep your distance and avoid disturbing the flamingos. The distillery is located in Rincon, Bonaire\u2019s oldest settlement. Here, you can learn how the kadushi cactus is transformed into a surprisingly smooth and delicious liqueur. 11. Dos Pos hike Bonaire: discover the beautiful 4 km trail<\/h2>

Ready to explore Bonaire in an active and surprising way? The Dos Pos hike is a beautiful 4-kilometer trail through the island\u2019s pristine northern landscape. Along the way, you\u2019ll be surrounded by rolling hills, kadushi cacti, and a variety of birds, including colorful parrots and parakeets.<\/p>

The hike starts at Dos Pos Spring and is fairly easy, making it suitable for most fitness levels. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, as shade is limited along the trail.
