Adventure tour in a 4×4 Jeep

An adventurous tour of Namibia

Get to know the amazing nature, interesting culture and rich history of this special African country. Experience local city life in Windhoek and Swakopmund, feast your eyes on the largest canyon on the African continent, admire the starry sky at Spitzkoppe and enjoy the endless plains and dunes of Sossusvlei. During this 21-day tour of Namibia, you will discover the versatility of this country at your own pace. No overcrowded program, but plenty of free time and space for cool activities and experiences along the way.

Your tour of Namibia begins and ends at the airport in Windhoek, Namibia's capital city.

From the moment you arrive in Windhoek, your adventure starts immediately. For the next few weeks you will drive through Namibia in a tough 4×4 jeep (with rooftop tent!). Would you rather sleep in lodges? This is also possible, just let us know.

The distances are long, but the routes are oh so beautiful. You will often be the only one on the roads. And this is what makes touring Namibia such a special experience, especially when you realize how insanely beautiful, varied and vast the desert landscapes around you are.

To determine the best travel period for Namibia, we look at more than just the weather, namely also the crowds. Because if at all possible, we will always recommend you to travel outside the high season (July - August).

In general, the period from April to mid-December is the best travel time for Namibia. Do you also want to spot wildlife during your tour? Then it is advisable to travel specifically during the months of June through October.

Pricing for this trip is available on request.

For preparing a travel proposal including quotation we charge €74,99. When the travel proposal is approved we will deduct these costs from the total sum of the trip.

The itinerary

Windhoek is a lively city that you should definitely take at least part of a day to explore. Windhoek's city center has several attractions and consists of a mix of colonial German and modern buildings.

The Independence Memorial Museum is a good landmark, as is the Lutheran Church found at the foot of the museum. Both sights are must-sees. But be sure to also take in Independence Avenue where you can store and look around at the Meteorite Fountain. Any other tips? We'll give you those in the detailed trip proposal.

Do you have a late arrival in Windhoek? Then spend the night in a cozy B&B with pool. The next day you'll be ready for departure right away!

You leave Windhoek behind and travel in your cool 4×4 Jeep to the south of Namibia, to the Kalahari Desert. The road here is well paved and it is comfortable driving. Along the way, you will encounter a number of interesting places where you can stop for a coffee and pastry if necessary.

The Kalahari Desert is a semi-desert, this means it has savannahs and grassy steppes in addition to sand dunes. The desert stretches across Botswana, South Africa and Namibia.

During the most magical moment of the day, sunset, you will take a game drive through the low sand dunes of the desert. You will meet special inhabitants: the oryx, dik-dik, springboks, ostriches and many more! Admiring the sunset from the desert is magical and romantic. The sand of the dunes turns surreal red and it seems as if nature holds its breath for just a moment.

Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch

Impression of the surroundings of the Kalahari Desert. We reserve a camping spot for you on a beautiful ranch where you can admire a breathtaking starry sky from your tent at night. Oh, a game drive through the Kalahari Desert is of course also arranged for you!

On the way to Fish River Canyon, there are two impressive landscapes to explore: Quiver Tree Forest and Giant's Playground. Quiver Tree Forest is full of photogenic tubular trees, an aloe species. Not much further you will find Giant's Playground, a landscape filled with giant boulders. These are remnants of lava estimated to be about 180 million years old.

Via gravel roads that cut across Namibia's vast landscapes, you eventually reach the Fish River Canyon. It is the largest canyon in Africa and the second largest in the world. The Fish River has carved a particularly impressive canyon here over thousands of years, some 160 kilometers long, 550 meters deep and at its widest as much as 27 meters.

You continue driving toward the small town of Aus which lies on the edge of the Namib Naukluft National Park and the Sperrgebiet. The landscapes are vast and breathtakingly beautiful. We book you a spot on the campsite here where you are surrounded by nothing but beautiful nature. And a big advantage is that from here you can take beautiful walks through the area.

Garub wild horses Namibia
Little Aus Vista

Namib Naukluft National Park is home to a group of wild horses. It is not entirely clear how the horses got here, but the story goes that a German baron transported horses by ship to Namibia to keep at his castle. During World War I, he went back into service and lost his life on the battlefield. His wife never returned to Namibia. The horses escaped and over the years have adapted to a life in the Namibian desert. How special is it if you manage to spot them?

On the way to the coastal town of Lüderitz, you pass Kolmanskop. The once thriving diamond town is located in the middle of the desert has fallen into complete disrepair and is being absorbed bit by bit by the desert. It is a special stop and the story behind the diamond city is incredibly interesting.

Lüderitz, a place often skipped during a tour of Namibia. Still, it is nice to book an overnight stay here. Lüderitz Peninsula is one of the highlights to visit. The peninsula is known for its many bays, lagoons and pristine beaches. You can spot fur seals, many different bird species and even a colony of black-footed penguins at Halifax Point. The bird you will undoubtedly see is the flamingo, as there are an incredible number of them on the peninsula.

During a camping tour in Namibia it is nice to alternate camping with staying in a hotel. And let us just book a very nice place for you on the peninsula of Lüderitz!

A long but impressive drive awaits you. Sesriem is the base for exploring Sossusvlei, the impressive dune pan surrounded by the world's highest sand dunes.

Big Daddy, Dune 45, Elim Dune, Deadvlei and Sossusvlei are some of the highlights of this beautiful piece of nature. It is a bizarre environment where you can take beautiful walks, for example, among the 900-year-old and dead trees of Deadvlei. Challenge yourself to climb one of the highest dunes and watch from above as the sun disappears behind the horizon. It is truly one of the most beautiful places you will visit during your tour of Namibia.

You leave the desert behind to drive to Namibia's most famous coastal town: Swakopmund. The place has many German colonial features such as buildings, street names and even beer breweries. This together makes Swakopmund a lively place with many restaurants and bars. But of course also with some cool sights and fun activities you can do in the area. Explore the desert dunes of Sandwich Harbour by jeep safari, learn about the special desert inhabitants, go kayaking among hundreds of fur seals or fly above the impressive Skeleton Coast. There is plenty to do around Swakopmund!

Tips Swakopmund Namibia

On the way to another highlight of the tour of Namibia, you can choose to detour a bit and make a stop at Cape Cross. At this spot, the Portuguese sailor Diego Cáo was the first European to set foot in Namibia. You will find a replica of the cross he set here. In addition, Cape Cross is best known for its large fur seal colony, estimated at around 75,000. It's an impressive stop, but be prepared because it's also a smelly one. You won't soon forget the pungent smell.

You will then travel on to Spitzkoppe where you will sleep under a tremendously clear starry sky. What makes this place special is that gigantic granite rock peaks tower above the desert plain out of nowhere. The landscape is more than 700 million years old. You will find rocks of all shapes and sizes. Explore here and learn about the petroglyphs of the San. A local people group who lived here years ago.

You drive further inland to Namibia's highest mountain: the Koningstein. During the drive, you will see the landscape change from vast plains to a true mountain landscape.

You will spend the next few nights in a special place, namely in a beautiful lodge and campsite near the dry bed of the Uga River. When evening falls you will climb the rocks from where you have a view of the Brandberg and can also admire a spectacular sunset. It soon becomes clear to you where Brandberg gets its name from.

The location where you are now is ideal for relaxing, but if you want to get out and about, you can take a hike at the White Lady. In the area you will find more than 1,000 rock paintings.

Camping Brandberg White Lady Lodge

Surely one of the biggest and best game parks in Africa is Etosha National Park. Over the next three days you will make several game drives to spot wildlife. Scattered throughout the national park are waterholes where you generally have the best chance of seeing wildlife up close.

Etosha means "great white spot of dry water," and this refers to the dry, vast salt pan that covers much of the park.

You will stay overnight at several campsites in the middle of Etosha National Park. Almost every campsite borders a waterhole surrounded by a natural stand. Here you can observe wildlife throughout the day, but especially at night this is a crazy place.

Prefer to spend the night in a lodge overlooking the park? This too is possible!

The last place on your tour of Namibia is the Waterberg Plateau National Park. A rare mountain range because of its fertile soil. In fact, no area in Namibia has as much water as Waterberg. The green surroundings and golden brown rocks are therefore the ideal place for a final hike in Namibia.

The plateau, which is 200 meters high, forms a green oasis and is inhabited by several special animals. There are many different bird and mammal species to spot, but you can also spot the rare and endangered white and black rhinoceros. It is optional to book a game drive or hike with a ranger to get close to these animals.

On the last day you will drive back to the capital Windhoek for the return flight to the Netherlands.
