The itinerary
After arriving at Alicante airport, it is time to pick up your rental car. This can be at the airport itself or you will be taken by shuttle bus to the rental company about 10 minutes away. Once you have picked up your rental car, the tour of Murcia really begins!
You will drive in half an hour to the city of Murcia where you will stay in a hotel centrally located in the historic city center. Everything is within walking distance in Murcia. There are several attractions and cozy restaurants and (tapas) bars where you can go for a bite to eat and a drink. Visit the Cathedral of Murcia, walk along the Segura River and take a look at the Real Casino.

After getting acquainted with the region's capital, it's time to move on. You will drive deeper inland to explore the Valle de Ricote oasis, known for its picturesque landscapes.
It is a place full of nature where mountains, cliffs, villages and orchards alternate. Everything comes together in the valley where the Segura River winds its way through the landscape. The whole valley is lush with fertility thanks to this river and is therefore full of palm trees and other beautiful plants and shrubs.
We recommend you take a day out and drive past the most beautiful villages, from Abaran to Villanueva. Along the way you can stop at amazing viewpoints. You will notice that the area has many Arab influences.
Impression of accommodation in Valle de Ricote: a beautiful four-star aparthotel located amidst the green oasis.
Bullas is one of the wine regions where the Monastrell grape is made into a delicious soft wine. And the nice thing about the town and wine region of Bullas is that it is still relatively unknown compared to the wine regions of Jumilla and Yecla. A visit to Bullas naturally involves visiting a winery and tasting a variety of wines. But did you know that the area has even more to offer? Like visiting the important pilgrimage site of Caravaca de la Cruz and the natural water source Salto del Usero.
The Sierra Espuña Natural Park is one of the best kept secrets and largest forest areas in the Region of Murcia. You can take beautiful walks and bike rides, and for those who love it, it is also good to know that you will find mountain walls that you can climb. Mountain villages like Aledo and El Berro are definitely highlights of the natural park, as is seeing with your own eyes the clear blue reservoir Barrancos de Gebas.
Above you can see an example of a cool accommodation in the middle of the Sierra Espuña Natural Park. We love looking for locations that are off the beaten track where you are surrounded by nothing but nature. And we can tell you that we have found the perfect accommodation for you!
You leave behind the inland full of nature and cute villages and drive toward the coast of Murcia, the Costa Cálida. Along the coastline you will find beautiful beaches, cozy coves, vast natural parks, historic cities and much more. Cartagena is one of the most important Spanish port cities and has a very interesting and ancient history.
It is a must to explore the historic heart of the city here and take a boat ride through the harbor. You will find cozy tapas bars and upscale restaurants, a few of which we will, of course, tip you off.
Combine your visit to Cartagena with exploring the region's most beautiful beaches. You can choose to stay in the city center of the city or instead in a nice apartment on the coast.

The last destination of the tour is La Manga de Mar Menor. A unique location in Murcia that you must have been to.
This saltwater lagoon is the largest in Europe and is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a stretch of land called La Manga. It is the ideal place to relax on the beach and enjoy wonderful sunny days. Around the Mar Menor you will find several villages where you can catch a glimpse of Spanish local life, think Santiago de la Ribera or Lo Pagan.
But this is not the only reason why this place is a must-visit. Have you heard of Parque Regional de las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar? You'll find mud baths, pink salt lakes with flamingos and a pristine sandy beach. What you can do there? We'll tell you all about that later!
