Tips Mui Ne: Vietnam's cutest coastal town
Mui Ne is one of the special places you will pass during a tour of Vietnam. Be sure to spend a few days here if you enjoy water activities like kite- and windsurfing. By the way, the attractive surf culture is not the only thing that attracts travelers to Mui Ne, sights like the Fairy Stream and the traditional fishing village are also interesting to explore. Curious about this coastal town? These are our best tips for in Mui Ne!
What to do in Mui Ne?
Did you already know that Mui Ne was originally a small fishing village? With the arrival of tourists, this partly changed, but to this day you can visit the authentic fishing village of Ham Tien. The town of Mui Ne is really nothing more than a mile-long road on which hotels, hostels and restaurants are located. It is therefore impossible to get lost here!
Walk through the Fairy Stream
The Fairy Stream, in Vietnamese Suoi Tien, is a river stream you can walk through. But what makes this place so special is that the yellow sand dunes meet the red sand dunes here. This naturally produces beautiful pictures, especially during sunrise or sunset.
Visit the red and yellow sand dunes
The red and yellow sand dunes are a short drive from Mui Ne and, incidentally, are not far from each other either. Drive on first to the yellow sand dunes for a hike or activity such as quad biking and then drive back to the red sand dunes for sunset.
An activity commonly done on the red sand dunes is sandboarding. Upon arrival, there are many locals you can rent a board from. Our experience is that the boards are often not well waxed so you don't slide hard off the dunes. Therefore, renting 1 sandboard is more than enough.
Take a look at the local fishermen
In the authentic port of Mui Ne, you can spot local fishermen. In fact, there are as many as hundreds of colorful boats here. Most fishermen go out at night and return in the morning with their catch. Another nice place is the fish market where you can go in the morning. After the local fishermen gather their catch, they go to the market with buckets full of fish to sell them.
A day at the beach: relaxing or surfing
You cannot stay in a coastal town without spending a day at the beach. Mui Ne has a beautiful long and wide sandy beach lined with palm trees. The sea there is not as clear as in Thailand, but just as cooling. And incidentally a lot rougher when it comes to waves. Mui Ne is Vietnam's most popular surf spot for a reason!
Where to stay in Mui Ne?
Mui Ne consists of one long main street that runs along the coast and along this street you will find most of the hostels and hotels. An accommodation that is very popular because of its good value for money as well as coziness is Mui Ne Hills Backpackers. Actually, this accommodation consists of four locations (from € to €€):
