Eating out at the best restaurants in Barcelona? In this article I share my favorite hotspots, from atmospheric bars to luxurious rooftops. Barcelona has captured a very special place in my heart. Having already been to Barcelona several times, I decided to take a Spanish language course here for a period of 2 months. A time during which I discovered many great bars and restaurants in Barcelona. Places you really need to go during your visit to this vibrant city!Â
1. Rooftop Hotel Majestic
A rooftop is always popular, especially in a big city where you can enjoy a beautiful view in the sunshine. This rooftop is located on the Majestic Hotel, on Passeig de Gracia, in the heart of Barcelona. You can visit this hot spot without staying at the hotel. The rooftop is not very big, but there is often room on the terrace. It is a place I visited often during my 2 months in the city. In short, a hot spot in Barcelona that doesn't get bored easily. Certainly not because of the delicious drinks you can order there!
2. Restaurant Sopa Boba
A restaurant in Barcelona that I have often taken friends to is Sopa Boba. Every time I have eaten out here, I have eaten fantastic again. What I really like about the restaurant is the ambiance, and that the chalkboard acts as a menu. That's different from ordering your dishes through a QR code. If the menu is still the same, be sure to go for the steak tartare and the patatas bravas. These taste incredibly good here. Before you go here on the off chance: it is advisable to make a reservation at Sopa Boba. The restaurant, in the Exeimple neighborhood, is very popular!
3. La Colectiva Barranco
A fun way to discover new hotspots in Barcelona is when you are tipped off by locals. For example, through a friend we ended up at the gem La Colectiva Barranco. The surprising thing about this restaurant is that it is not very inviting from the outside and if you don't know where to go, you would most likely walk by. So you really have to know this place, and in addition to that, make your reservations on time because it is very small. When you eat here you will see that La Colectiva Barranco is very popular among the locals, which is always a good sign. The service is very friendly, although I think there is only one person walking around who actually does everything in the restaurant. A good tip we can give you is to leave it completely up to the staff what you will eat tonight, at least that was our best decision ever. All the flavors are pure. Combinations are presented that you wouldn't easily expect, and dishes that you probably won't order yourself anytime soon either. All of this is precisely what makes the restaurant so great!
4. Sensi Tapas
Gourmet Sensi, Le Bistrot Sensi and Sensi Tapas: it doesn't really matter which restaurant you book at, they are all very good. At these restaurants in Barcelona you will enjoy Mediterranean tapas, or traditional tapas with a modern twist. All three hotspots are located in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, definitely one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. Sensi Tapas' motto is "Come, bebe, la vida es breve. This means in Dutch, 'Eat, drink, life is over in the blink of an eye.' An extra motivation to book at one of these three toppers during your city break to Barcelona!
5. Hammock Juice Station
The hot spot Hammock Juice Station can be found in the Exeimple neighborhood. The name of the spot gives a lot away: you can enjoy all the goodies they have here in a rocking hammock. But there are also definitely chairs and tables available if you prefer them. Het is a hip brunch store where they serve delicious açai bowls, smoothies and coffee. A fun hotspot tip to check out in the morning or afternoon!
6. Boca Grande
If you feel like grabbing a bite to eat, but want to go the extra mile this time, then in your Barcelona at Boca Grande are. Personally, I do think there is a "see and be seen" atmosphere, but that doesn't detract from the experience. The interior is beautiful and the picturesque toilet has been featured on Instagram by many a celebrity. Eating out at Boca Grande is a true experience and the food is outstanding.
7. Feroz
The restaurant in Barcelona where I ended my adventure after 2 months was at Feroz. A tremendously beautiful and cozy restaurant where you can eat delicious food. The service there is very friendly and good at what they do. For example, after all this time I still remember the wines I drank this evening, namely the Gessami Blanco from 2021. Feroz is definitely a must during your city trip to Barcelona!
8. Lato Brunch
You'll also find this hot spot in the Eixample neighborhood. At Lato Brunch I picked up a fresh juice and a cappuccino daily, and occasionally something to eat. The delicious El Niño Toast (avocado toast) is my favorite, but the Eggs Benedict together is also very good. On weekends it can be very busy and often even a line forms outside, but during the week you can usually get there. Just keep in mind that Lato Brunch is closed on Tuesdays. One last fact is that everything in this place is dedicated to the Lama. You can see the animal in everything, even as a shape on your cappuccino!
9. The Roof- Edition Hotel
Last but not least, one more rooftop in Barcelona: The Roof- Edition Hotel. Near Barry Gotic, a famous neighborhood in Barcelona, is the Edition Hotel which has a huge fun rooftop, The Roof. You sit here very nicely and they serve delicious drinks and Asian street food snacks. The view of the city from here is also beautiful, especially during sunset. The Edition Hotel is centrally located in Barcelona, but does not stand out because of its location on a very quiet street.Â
What is a pleasant time to visit Barcelona?
I myself have been to Barcelona in both spring and summer, and personally I think spring is the best time of year to visit Barcelona. Of course you have to be a little lucky with the weather in spring, but when the sun shines, it's great. In general, during the months of April through June it is fairly quiet in the city allowing you to explore at your leisure. Unlike in summer when the streets and beaches are often crowded.
