On the edge of the border of Luxembourg and in the middle of the Belgian Ardennes you will find Nutchel's exceptionally fine forest cottages. The 'Cosy Cabins', as the cottages are also called, are very cozy and tastefully decorated. A weekend in the Ardennes had been on our bucket list for some time, so it was a dream come true to stay here from Friday to Monday. We stayed three nights in the Tree Trunk Hot Tub and enjoyed basic yet very comfortable facilities at Nutchel in Belgium. Let us take you to a place where you can leave the everyday hustle and bustle behind and really unwind.
A weekend to the Ardennes: staying overnight at Nutchel's
In the middle of the Belgian Ardennes, near the village of Martelange and close to the border of Luxembourg, you will find Nutchel. A place to disconnect and start over. Spread over the wooded terrain, there are no less than 30 Cosy Cabins, including as many as 7 uniquely designed types. Nutchel Ardennes is one of two locations in nature, as you'll find another cool Nutchel location in the French Alsace (which is obviously also on our bucket list).
Except for the Canopy (4-person), all types of Cosy Cabins can be booked with a hot tub, which is a very nice addition for a weekend to the Ardennes. The Sweet Cabin is perfect for couples who want to stay in nature without a pet, the Classic can be booked for 4 or 6 people and pets are allowed. And then you are left with our favorite: the Tree Trunk Hot Tub. Bookable for 6 people and with hot tub on the roof terrace, but pets are not allowed.
Tips for your weekend away in the Belgian Ardennes

Cosy Cabin - Tree Trunk Hot Tub
As we already wrote in the paragraph above, the Tree Trunk Hot Tub can accommodate 6 people and is an absolute must to book for a weekend in the Ardennes. Even if you are with 4 people, especially since you then have just more space in the cabin. The cabin has 3 comfortable double beds, a small kitchenette, dining table, a couch, a shower and toilet, a wood stove, a picnic table and barbecue on the terrace, not to mention a hot tub on the roof terrace. The voids where you sleep are small, but cozy. And extra warmly decorated with a garland of LED lights.
The cabin is designed so that you can feel the warmth of the wood stove from the couch. Nothing better to plop down here with a reading book and get totally immersed in the story. Prefer to bathe, relax or live outside? The hot tub is and stays pleasantly warm throughout your stay and is a nice place to relax at any time of day. You can also place the deck chairs outside so that you can catch every ray of sunlight. Delicious with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. And then of course from Nutchel you can also explore the beautiful hilly and wooded area, either by bicycle or on foot.
A tasty tip we want to give you is Stouvenaker bakery a 20-minute walk from Nutchel. Here you'll score freshly baked breads and homemade goodies.
Tasty treats at Nutchel
Maybe you've already figured it out, but gosh what a wonderful place Nutchel is to stay. The moments we enjoyed immensely were leaving the wood stove burning and the cozy evenings in the cabin. Evenings where we spent hours chatting, sipping a red glass of wine and dipping baguettes in a steaming cup of soup. But let's also not forget the evening we enjoyed a delicious raclette. Highly recommended as you can order a catered basket full of cheeses and goodies at the reception. As well as a picnic basket for breakfast and for summertime another great tip: the barbecue basket!
Disconnect to start over
Nutchel's unique concept allows you to bring the outdoors inside and become one with nature during your stay. And this is precisely the approach of a stay in the Ardennes or Alsace. Go back to basics. The emphasis here is on simplicity and being together. Reading a book on the terrace, relaxing in the hot tub, spotting chirping birds and having a good conversation together. You are reminded here that it is the little things that make life beautiful.
