Where is Lefkas and how do I get there?

Lefkas, also known as Lefkada, is located on the west coast of Greece, in the Ionian Sea. It is connected to the mainland by a movable bridge, making the island easily accessible by car. If traveling by plane, the nearest airport is Aktion International Airport (PVK). This airport is located on the mainland in the town of Preveza. From Preveza, it is then about 1.5 hours' drive to arrive on Lefkas.

There are direct flights from Amsterdam to Preveza. These are operated by Transavia and the flight takes just over 3 hours.

Ferry services are also available from the islands of Kefalonia and Ithaki. Consult the website Ferryscanner for the duration, price and tickets of the ferry services.

What is the best time to travel to Lefkas?

The best time to travel to Lefkas is in late spring, summer and early fall, from May to October. During these months you can enjoy pleasant temperatures, plenty of sunshine and warm sea water. The summer months of July and August are the warmest and also the high season. If you want to avoid the crowds and high prices, consider going in the early or late season.

What are the most beautiful sights on Lefkas?

Lefkas is home to a number of wonderful sights. Among other things, the peninsula is known for its beautiful beaches, but the monastery of Panagia Faneromeni is also highly recommended. What is the best place to stay on Lefkas?

Scattered across the island, you'll find several small villages where you can stay. The most popular and busiest place on the island is Lefkas Town, followed by the seaside resort Nidri. Other popular vacation destinations on Lefkada include Nikiana, Agios Nikitas, Vasiliki, Sivota and Lygia.

Which hotel do you recommend on Lefkas?

During our stay on Lefkada, we stayed in the village of Nikiana. Nikiana is a small, sprawling village located about 10 kilometers from Lefkada Town. We stayed at the super nice Porto Galini Resort & Spa. A hotel with a private beach, two swimming pools, a gym, two restaurants, a Sea Salt Spa & Wellness center, a Kid’s Club, and a wide range of activities (such as yoga, tennis, and stand-up paddleboarding).

Another hotel we recommend is Odyssey Hotel in Agios Nikitas. This is a unique, small-scale, car-free vacation spot on Lefkada. Odyssey is tucked away between Agios Nikitas and Milos Beach.
