A vacation to Dubai is quite an experience. Where else can you find skyscrapers reaching far beyond the clouds, traditional abra boats gliding gently across the water, and a desert that seems to stretch endlessly under a clear starry sky? Dubai is a city full of contrasts and surprises. Get lost in the narrow alleys of Deira, stare open-mouthed at the Burj Khalifa and feast on a local dish in a hidden eatery. Dubai knows how to surprise you every time. But what should you really not miss? I have collected the best tips for you, so you can experience Dubai at its best!
Fun things to do in Dubai
In a city bursting with iconic spots, choosing the perfect sights is a challenge in itself. Where to start when there are so many options? Our personal tip: combine the well-known must-sees with lesser-known gems to get a diverse picture of Dubai. How to go about that? I share that below with the 11 best tips to do in Dubai!
1. Discover Dubai's most authentic neighborhood: Deira
If you want to take a look at the old heart of Dubai, Deira is an absolute must-visit. This neighborhood is bursting with authentic charm and offers a good contrast to Dubai's ultra-modern skyline. Start your visit with a visit to the bustling and also chaotic Grand Souk, where you will be surrounded by colors and smells of textiles and souvenirs. Then wander the narrow alleys of the Al Fadihi Historic District, where you can admire local architecture and visit local art galleries.Â
My favorite highlight here is an Abra boat ride across the Dubai Creek. For just 1 AED, you'll sail across and experience what daily life is like here. Don't forget to visit the Spice Souk and the Gold Souk, two well-known sights in Deira. Vibrant places where commerce and tradition meet.Â
Tip: End your day with a local food tour and taste the most authentic flavors of Deira.
2. Spend a night in the desert
If you are in Dubai, you can hardly imagine that this city used to consist entirely of desert plains. In less than 50 years Dubai has grown into a fascinating modern city, and developments are still in full swing. Therefore, I personally feel that a night in the desert should not be missed. Not only is it a wonderful escape from the many stimuli and impressions of the city, but it is also a place where you can go back to basics.
In the Dubai desert, you can opt for a back-to-basic experience under the stars or treat yourself to a luxury glamping experience in one of the beautiful desert accommodations. Popular options include the Al Maha Desert Resort, where you can stay in a luxury suite with a private pool and views of the sand dunes. For a somewhat budget-friendly experience, book an overnight stay in Sonara Camp.
I myself spent a night on the grounds of Sand Sherpa, in the middle of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Here you will spend the night in a mini trailer with rooftop tent. In the morning you will be woken up by chirping birds, just in time to watch the sunrise.
3. To the top of the Burj Khalifa
A visit to Dubai is not complete without admiring and visiting the iconic Burj Khalifa. At 828 meters tall, it is not only the tallest building in the world, but also an architectural masterpiece that symbolizes the city's ambition and innovation.
For the ultimate experience, book a ticket to the top: the observation deck on floors 124 and 125. Here you will enjoy panoramic views of the city, the desert and the Arabian Gulf. You really do feast your eyes there. Should you be interested in a more exclusive visit to the Burj Khalifa, you can also go to floor 148. This is the highest observation deck in the world. For this you need the ticket "At The Top SKY.
My favorite time to visit the Burj Khalifa was just before sunset. This allows you to admire the city both in daylight and with the glow of the setting sun. Combine your visit with the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain show at the foot of the Burj Khalifa.Â
I already have my tips for visiting the Burj Khalifa written out in a separate article. This will give you an idea of what a visit looks like, and help you determine which ticket is best for you. Reserve your tickets well in advance to avoid queues and be sure to get your ticket during popular times, such as sunrise and sunset.

The average temperature in Dubai is around 25 - 30 degrees Celsius, but it can shoot up to 40 degrees Celsius in the summer months (June - September). A visit to Dubai is often combined with relaxing on the beach. Dubai has a beautiful coastline and offers a number of beautiful beaches.Â
One of the most popular beaches in Dubai is Jumeirah Beach, known for its white sand and views of the Burj Al Arab. There are plenty of facilities such as sun loungers and beach clubs.Â
My personal favorite is Kite Beach, a beautiful beach overlooking the Burj Al Arab and the city's imposing skyline. The beach and promenade have a wonderful atmosphere, it is a place where you immediately experience the vacation feeling.Â
Other well-known beaches in Dubai are Al Mazar Beach Park and La Mer. Exclusive beach clubs such as Nikki Beach and Drift Beach can be found at La Mer. These is are also the beaches known for offering water activities such as jet skiing and paddle boarding.Â

For a fantastic view of Palm Island, you can The View at the Palm visit. This is an observation deck from which you can get stunning panoramic views of the island, Dubai Marina and the Downtown Dubai skyline.
