What to do in Scheveningen? With its wide promenade, miles of sandy beach and trendy beach bars, this lively seaside resort is one of the liveliest on the Dutch coast. Don't be surprised, then, that it is a great place to be practically all year round. No matter whether the sun is shining or not, taking a dip in the sea is always possible. Just like dining at one of the cozy hotspots in Scheveningen. In this article we share all our tips, including the best hotspots and things to do in Scheveningen!

Scheveningen

Scheveningen was originally a fishing town, which later merged into a seaside resort and district in The Hague. It is the most popular seaside resort in the Netherlands and loved by both Hagenezen and (Dutch) tourists. We especially like to come here for the cozy Pier, the nice beach bars and of course for the Food Hall Scheveningen. And both in summer and in winter we love to take a walk along the Scheveningen boulevard and have a bite of fish at Simonis.

What to do in Scheveningen? 6 tips!

Because Scheveningen is such a popular seaside resort, you can also find many fun things to do there. How about bungee jumping over the sea or learning to surf the waves? Our personal favorite still remains strolling along the boulevard (or is it drinking a glass of rosé on the beach?).

1. Stroll along Scheveningen's iconic Pier.

The icon and eye-catcher of Scheveningen is the Pier. Wherever you are in Scheveningen, you always see the Pier. As such, it is a place that is bustling with activities, especially in the summer. For example, if you dare, you can bungee jump from 60 meters above the waves or cover a distance of 350 meters by zipline. Are these activities on the Pier a little too daring for you? Then you can also take a ride in the Ferris wheel from where you have a beautiful view of the sea, the Dutch coast and, of course, Scheveningen and The Hague. Furthermore, the Pier offers a number of stores and restaurants, as well as a nice view of surfers on a day with big waves.

2. Take a look around Scheveningen harbor

When we drive to Scheveningen from Rotterdam, we often park our car near the Scheveningen harbor. This small part of Scheveningen is very atmospheric and offers trendy restaurants such as Catch by Simonis and Suzie Q. Everything here is about tasting freshly caught fish. Biting a herring is done at the one and only spot: Simonis.

3. Settle down at a fine beach club

Every year, Scheveningen's beach tents are open from mid-March to the end of October. Some return every year, and some are replaced by something new. You will find several beach clubs on both sides of the Pier. Each tent has its own look and character, but together they form a large and cozy whole.

When we go to Scheveningen to enjoy a day of sun, sea and beach, we prefer to go to the Zwarte Pad. This part is often just a bit quieter than the beach near the boulevard, plus you'll find some of the nicest beach clubs there. Think Azorra Beachclub and Indigo.

4. Order some goodies at the Foodhall Scheveningen

A fun spot not to be missed in Scheveningen is the Foodhall. The Foodhall Scheveningen offers boundless delights under one roof. The hall is inspired by the atmosphere of a lively, worldly market as you know it in foreign metropolises. We love it and I'm sure you do too!

5. Take a walk on the beach

The beach of Scheveningen is kilometers long and therefore the ideal place for taking a beach walk. A walk on the beach is incredibly refreshing, but also very relaxing. The sound of crashing waves, squawking seagulls and the crackling sand between your toes has a calming effect on your brain.

6. Stroll along the promenade

Scheveningen's boulevard stretches from Scheveningen Harbor to the North Beach and is a whopping 2.5 kilometers long. The nice thing about taking a stroll along the boulevard is that along the way you will encounter all kinds of things. From cozy cafes to fun attractions such as Legoland and Sea Life. An icon on Scheveningen's boulevard is of course the Kurhaus, an architectural highlight that has been here since 1818 and is therefore not to be missed. Further north, the boulevard takes you to the fairly new Foodhall and the beach tents at Zwarte Pad.

Hotel tip for a weekend in Scheveningen

Scheveningen is fun not only for a day, but also just right for a weekend getaway. And our ultimate hotel tip for a weekend in Scheveningen is the newly renovated Bilderberg Europa Hotel. The rooms are modern and the beds are very comfortable. We understand that with the large selection of bars and restaurants in Scheveningen, the hotel bar may not come to mind, but for a culinary bite you don't have to leave the house. At Salt Coastal Bistro & Bar, your meal is excellent!
