Booking a weekend away to the metropolis of Paris still raises some questions. So we are happy to share answers to some frequently asked questions! 

Paris is the capital of France and is located in the north of the country. The city is located on the Seine River. There are several options for traveling to Paris, but the two most common ways of traveling from the Netherlands are:

  • By Thalys: Paris is easily accessible by train, especially from the cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam from where the high-speed train departs. You are in the heart of the French capital within 4 hours.

  • By car: for a weekend in Paris, using the car is also a good option. From Rotterdam, it takes about 5 hours to get to Paris. Just keep in mind that traffic in the city can be busy.

Within Paris, you can use a good and extensive network of public transportation. You can get around the city easily by bus, metro and train.

Paris is a popular destination for booking a city break all year round. A visit to the city can be enjoyable any season, of course it depends on personal preferences and interests.

  • Spring - the weather is pleasant, the temperature is mild and parks and gardens are in bloom. 

  • Summer - warm months with fun festivities in the city. Also, high season, so it can be very crowded at the famous sights.

  • Autumn - one of our favorite times to visit Paris is during autumn. The city is then in beautiful autumn colors, less crowded and also the temperatures are pleasant.

  • Winter - winter in Paris has its charm, especially around the holidays when the city is beautifully lit up. Just keep in mind that it can be cold and rainy in the city.

Paris has many iconic sights, these are the most famous highlights of the city that you must have seen during a city break:

  • The Eiffel Tower: the icon of Paris as well as France. You can go to the top for a magnificent view of the city;
  • The Louvre: one of the world's largest and most visited art museums, with an impressive collection, including the Mona Lisa;
  • Notre-Dame: a magnificent Gothic cathedral that was unfortunately damaged during a fire in 2019;
  • Montmartre: a picturesque neighborhood in Paris, famous for Sacré-Coeur and Place du Tertre;
  • Champs-Élysées: the famous shopping boulevard in Paris where you will also find the Arc de Triomphe.

Disneyland Paris is located about 30 kilometers outside the center of Paris. You can therefore ideally combine a city trip to Paris with an outing to the theme park. From the center of Paris, the easiest way to travel to Disneyland is by train. Take RER line A and get off at Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy station.

If you are in Paris by car, you can drive to Disneyland Paris via the A4 motorway. There is plenty of parking at the theme park.

The most comfortable way to travel to Paris is by high-speed train that departs from the Dutch train stations of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. You will be in the heart of the French capital in no time.
