The Latin Quarter is one of the most fun and lively neighbourhoods in Paris. This historic area on the Left Bank (Rive Gauche), close to the Sorbonne, is packed with atmosphere: medieval streets, cosy cafés, charming boutiques and iconic sights. Wander down lanes like Rue de la Huchette, enjoy a picnic in the Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg), and end your visit with a crêpe on a charming terrace. In this article, we’ll share our favourite hotspots and sights in the Latin Quarter, plus practical tips to help you make the most of your visit.

Top sights in Latin Quarter, Paris

1. The Panthéon

One of the most impressive sights in the Latin Quarter is the Panthéon. This grand building was originally built as a church, but today it’s a mausoleum where many famous French figures are laid to rest. You can visit the Panthéon, and the dome is especially worth it. This is where you’ll get a beautiful panoramic view over Paris.

Tip: go early in the day if you can. It’s often quieter, and afterwards you can enjoy a relaxed walk towards the gardens.

2. City Park Le Jardin du Luxembourg

From the Panthéon, you can walk straight to the Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg) via Rue Soufflot, one of Paris’ most beloved parks. It’s the perfect place to take a break, read a book, have a picnic, or simply wander around.

There are a few places you do not want to miss:

  • Palais du Luxembourg: this palace had a variety of functions over the years (from royal palace to prison), and today is the seat of the French Senate.

  • Fontaine de Médicis (Medici fountain): one of the most beautiful, romantic corners of the park.

3. Église Saint-Sulpice

One of the nicest streets to stroll along in this area is Boulevard Saint-Germain. As you walk here, you’ll pass Église Saint-Sulpice, the second-largest church in Paris. Its grand façade and the fountains in front make it a lovely stop, even if you don’t go inside.

The most beautiful streets in Latin Quarter

1. Boulevard Saint-Germain

Boulevard Saint-Germain adds a modern flair to this medieval neighbourhood. Along this wide boulevard you’ll find art galleries, chic boutiques and lively cafés. Don’t forget to pop into the iconic Café de Flore for a classic Parisian experience.

2. Rue de la Huchette

For a touch of history and charm, head into Rue de la Huchette, a narrow, winding street often said to be one of the oldest in Paris. Here you’ll find cosy restaurants and souvenir shops at every turn. Make a quick detour to Rue du Chat qui Pêche, where, according to local legend, an alchemist brought his black cat to life with the Philosopher’s Stone. To this day, people still claim the cat roams these streets.

Hotspot tip in Latin Quarter

1. La Crêpe rit du Clown

Walking through Latin Quarter, you automatically discover the nicest places. Our favorite find is La Crêpe rit du Clown: a small, cozy restaurant with a terrace where, with a little luck, you can sit right down. Order a sweet crepe (with banana and chocolate, for example) or go for a savory variety and, above all, enjoy the atmosphere.
