As a traveler, traveling around an unknown country can be overwhelming and quite a bit of a challenge. So too in Peru! Therefore it is very nice to have something to fall back on. We have experienced that traveling through Peru easily and comfortably can with the hop-on hop-off system of PeruHop. There are different tickets you can book, but generally PeruHop travels back and forth between Lima and Cusco. How exactly does PeruHop work?
PeruHop operates several buses daily between Lima and Cusco, and in order to use PeruHop's bus transportation, purchasing a ticket is essential. On PeruHop's website, you'll find a complete overview of available routes. There are many options, so if you want personal advice you can always stop by the PeruHop office in Lima, Cusco or La Paz (Bolivia).
Once you have purchased your ticket, you can enter your itinerary online or by e-mail. This way you reserve your seat on the bus. Of course you can always change your schedule, but do this no later than 24 hours in advance. The ticket you bought is valid for 1 year from the moment you board the bus.
Our experience with PeruHop
Simply put, PeruHop is an ordinary hop-on hop-off bus that takes you from A to B, but that is certainly not how we experienced it! We spent the hours we were on the bus chatting with other travelers. Discussing travel plans, tipping restaurants and sharing experiences ... you really notice that you are with a fun, diverse and international travel company. Also, on every PeruHop bus there is a guide. They make it extra fun by making sure the group gets together for meals as well. So, especially as a solo traveler, it is really advisable to travel with PeruHop because it makes it easy to meet new people.
More than a hop-on hop-off bus
Traveling through Peru with PeruHop is quite an experience in itself. Because apart from the destinations you visit and the friends you make along the way, there are also several activities to arrange during the trip. Of course, the activities included vary by ticket. For example, we bought a ticket for the route 'Lima to Canyon'. Included was a visit to the Paracas National Reserve, a visit to a Pisco Vineyard near Huacachina and an entrance ticket to the observation tower over the Nazca lines. Along the way, it is also possible to book additional activities through the guide, such as a boat trip along the Ballestas Islands or a baby carriage tour in Huacachina.
The ideal itinerary through Peru
We experienced touring Peru with the bus organization PeruHop as positive. We can definitely recommend it to every other traveler. Conveniently, you can directly determine part of your itinerary and optimally enjoy all destinations. The advantage of traveling from Lima via the south to Cusco is that you build up the altimeters during the trip. Great to slowly get used to the altitude and hopefully avoid altitude sickness!
