Es Vedra at its most beautiful
The small rocky island of Es Vedra lies off the southwest coast of the Spanish island of Ibiza. It is a particularly imposing, uninhabited and protected island. The highest point of Es Vedra is as high as 413 meters, bizarre huh. Besides the fact that the view from the mainland of Ibiza is insane and breathtaking, it is also very interesting to know that there are quite a few stories about Es Vedra going around. That it is a special place that many tourists, locals, artists and spiritual persons attracts is therefore not surprising.
Indeed, Es Vedra is said to possess a magical, energetic attraction. For example, some islanders have experienced cosmic powers, and 19th-century priest Don Francisco Palau is said to have experienced mystical revelations during meditations. Encounters with extraterrestrial beings, for example. According to one legend, the rock island might even be the summit of the sunken city of Atlantis.
Being here during sunset? That is, in a word, magical. Especially when everyone starts applauding as soon as the sun disappears behind the horizon.
How do you get to the Es Vedra viewpoint?
To enjoy the breathtaking views of Es Vedra, it is a must to have a rental car, because without a rental car you won't get there. Check out rental car options and costs on the website of SunnyCars. To get to the parking lot, it is convenient to navigate to Se Pedrera. Once near here, you will automatically see signs along the road pointing you to the parking lot. More convenient is to navigate to the following coordinates (click for the Google Maps pop-up): 38°52'21.2″N 1°13'50.2″E. This brings you directly to the parking lot!
Hiking to the viewpoint
Keep in mind that this spot is hugely popular and as a result it can be extremely crowded especially around sunset. The parking lot as indicated via the coordinates will fill up quickly, after which cars park along the road and create their own parking spaces. From the parking lot it is about a 10-15 minute straight walk until you reach the viewpoint.
Handy to know before visiting
The path to the viewpoint consists of gravel, sand and loose stones. It is therefore advisable to wear good shoes and not to walk in heels or flip flops. As you can see from the pictures, the viewpoint is a mountain cliff from which you look over Es Vedra. The edges are not cordoned off so always keep an eye on where you are walking. There are no facilities at the viewpoint, so bring your own food and drink if you want to be here for an extended period of time. During the day it is fairly quiet and you have a chance to be alone here, at night this place is very popular!
