Touring the Netherlands in a vintage car is a trip that should be on everyone's bucket list. Especially touring in a 2CV, or "the duck" of the French car brand Citroën. With a classic car, you attract a lot of attention. People wave at you enthusiastically and look at you until you disappear from their sight. Tell me, touring in such a fun car is also something that makes you happy, isn't it? A day out in a vintage car with friends or family is guaranteed to be a success!

Day tour of old Dutch villages and past 15 unique mills

WeLoveOldtimers has mapped out several routes that you can follow through Dutch landscapes and small villages. But of course it is also possible to determine your own route. With our lavender-colored duckling, we drove a cool route through South Holland and Gelderland that took us past 15 unique windmills. They call this route the Molenroute. When you rent a 2CV, you get the route on paper!

Old-fashioned map reading

The Mill Route is a 109-kilometer route that takes you along beautiful roads past 15 mills. The route is written out step by step in a booklet that you can take from the shed. You can also download the route in advance as a pdf file and thus follow it from your phone. Our preference was to read the map the old-fashioned way and let the guide show us around. Of course, map-reading is part and parcel of driving an old 2CV.

Along the way you pass villages such as Deil, Beesd and Hoornaar. Villages you may never have heard of. This makes the route so much fun to drive. You look your eyes out. The surroundings are beautiful, the villages are small and old, and the ever-changing types of windmills are the highlights of the ride.

The cost of renting a 2CV

If you go out for a day with a 2CV, you should expect to spend at least €300. This of course includes the rental of the duck, but also 100 free kilometers. Afterwards you deliver the tank full again in Hoogblokland. The day touring through the Netherlands can be supplemented with a nice picnic basket, high tea or lunch at a local café in one of the villages on the route.
