The most beautiful places in the Veluwe are of course the vast moors and wooded areas. But did you know that you can also discover many cool sights on the Veluwe? The Veluwe is ONEn of the most beautiful places in the Netherlands, and that we love coming there is no secret. The National Park the Veluwezoom is a beautiful natural park where you can spend hours hiking and biking, but spending the night in the Veluwe is also wildly popular. These are, in our opinion, the 6 most beautiful places in the Veluwe!
1. The Posbank
Eone of the most beautiful places on the Veluwe is without doubt the Posbank. The Posbank is eand vast and hilly landscape. The highest point is no less than 90 meters above sea level. And at this highest point you will find one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Netherlands. On clear days you can see infinitely far and with a little luck spot a flock of sheep in the moors.
The Posbank in Rheden is a popular spot among hikers and cyclists. You will find the Paviljoen de Posbank where you can have a cup of coffee or a delicious lunch. You will also find a large parking lot as many hiking and cycling routes start from the Posbank. We like to walk here over the Herikhuizerveld where you walk over the hills and through the moors.
A great time to visit the Posbank is from mid-August to mid-September when the moors are in bloom. The hilly landscape then turns all purple. A magnificent sight. Then keep in mind that it can be crowded, especially on weekends. Of course, the Posbank is always a beautiful place and the scenery can be surprising every day. For example, we walked there the other day when it was foggy, so mysterious.
2. Kootwijkerzand
In the midst of the forests, in the Veluwe you will find a large open plain, an area of moors and sand drifts. Also known as the Kootwijkerzand. With an area of 700 hectares, the Kootwijkerzand is the largest active sand drift in Western Europe. This certainly makes the Kootwijkerzand one of the most beautiful places on the Veluwe.
A cool attraction here is the monumental broadcasting station Radio Kootwijk. The monument dates back to the 1920s and was used at the time, among other things, to communicate with the Dutch colonies. The impressive building is stunning in contrast to the rugged and flat surroundings.

4. The Elsberg
Can you imagine being able to spot wild animals up close in the middle of the moors? The Elsberg is an observation hut located on top of a hill in the Veluwezoom National Park. From the hut you have beautiful views over the endless heathlands and forest landscapes of the Veluwe. It is a popular spot among nature lovers. With luck you can see Scottish Highlanders, roe deer and wild boar up close, but of course this is not always the case. Bringing your camera and/or binoculars is therefore a must. The best chance of spotting animals on the open plains is early in the morning or at dusk. When we spend the night in the Veluwe you'll find us when it starts to get dusky in observation hut The Elsberg. It is thoroughly enjoyable here as the setting sun makes the landscape a warm orange glow.
Parking at De Elsberg parking lot can be found on the Lange Juffer. Walk from the parking lot to the observation hut in about 10 minutes.
5. Rozendaal Field
The Rozendaalsche Veld, like the Posbank, is a vast heathland. It is a large and high-altitude area where you hike at the highest point of the Veluwe (110 meters above sea level). The altitude alone makes this ONEn of the most beautiful places in the Veluwe.
In the middle of the Rozendaalsche veld you will find the impressive Brandtoren. This is the last fire tower you can find on the Veluwe and dates back to 1949. The fire tower was used by the Veluwe Forest Fire Committee until 1978. From the top they looked out over the vast plains for forest and heath fires. Although no longer in service, the tower is fortunately preserved and thus can still be visited and climbed. From the second floor, you can enjoy a magnificent view.
6. Loenen Waterfalls
Waterfalls you might not immediately expect in the Netherlands. But in Loenen near the Veluwe you really do find the largest waterfalls in the Netherlands. The waterfall spreng from 1869 rises in the forests of the Schalter. The spreng consists of two parts, the Vrijenbergspreng and the Veldhuizerspreng, both of which are about 6 kilometers long. During our visit to the Veluwe we naturally had to check out this promising spot! Upon arrival, unfortunately, it turned out to be quite busy. So the Loenen Waterfalls are definitely a must-see, but keep in mind that you are not the only one!
Spending the night in the Veluwe
Between the wooded areas and on the vast moors you will find in the Veluwe special places to spend the night. The range of accommodations on the Veluwe is large, ranging from tiny houses to cozy pods and luxury hotels. With any luck, you can spot wildlife from your stay. Some cool accommodations in the Veluwe that we tip you off for a weekend in nature are:
