Westland: The Glass City

The Westland region is known as the greenhouse horticulture area of the Netherlands and is nicknamed De Glazen Stad (The Glass City) for good reason. The vast greenhouses, which are illuminated in the evening with assimilation lighting, regularly turn the sky orange. The region consists of villages such as Naaldwijk, ’s-Gravenzande, Wateringen, and Monster.

What makes Westland particularly interesting is its surprising versatility. Here, you can effortlessly combine beaches and dunes with green polders, charming village centers, and unique insights into the world of greenhouse horticulture. Lovers of local food are also in for a treat: there are various places where you can sample fresh regional products, often directly from the grower. Curious about all the things you can do here? Then take a look at our article full of nice tips and places of interest in Westland for the best things to do and surprising outings in this special region.
