We went out and discovered the best sights and activities in this charming city. Read on quickly for our personal tips!

1. Stroll along historic canals and monuments

Start your day in Delft with a leisurely stroll through the atmospheric city center. Delft is known for its picturesque canals, cozy bridges and impressive monuments. A must-see is the Oude Kerk, with its iconic leaning tower. But also don't miss the Nieuwe Kerk on the Markt. William of Orange is buried here, and from the tower you have an insane view of the city.

The Fish Bridge

Delft is known for its beautiful bridges, and the Visbrug is a perfect example. This 19th-century bridge, located across the Nieuwe Delft in the Voorstraat, has a romantic look and offers a beautiful view of the historic facades along the water. Fun fact: the bridge gets its name from an old brewery that was once located here.

Lady of Rijnsburg Bridge

Dhe Lady of Rijnsburg Bridge is located on the street Vrouwenregt right next to the New Church. The brick arch bridge is named after an abbess of the convent of women in Rijnsburg, which was founded in 1133. The bridge dates from the sixteenth century and is among the oldest bridges in Delft. In 2012, the bridge was completely renovated. Like the Fish Bridge, the Lady of Rijnsburg Bridge is a national monument

2. Discover the charm of the Marketplace

The beating heart of Delft? That is without a doubt the Markt. This square is surrounded by historic buildings and cozy terraces. Here you will also find the impressive Delft Town Hall, an architectural gem from the Renaissance. On Thursday mornings, the Markt is transformed into a lively goods market, where you can score local delicacies and fresh produce.

3. Delve into the world of Vermeer

Delft and Johannes Vermeer are inseparable. At the Vermeer Center you can learn all about this famous painter and his masterpieces, such as The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Highly recommended for art lovers!

4. An inflected courtyard and an oasis of calm in Delft

In the middle of the city, yet an oasis of tranquility: the courtyards of Delft. These charming courtyards are perfect for a brief escape from the hustle and bustle. The most famous is the Agathaplein, near Museum Prinsenhof. A hidden gem where you can enjoy the historic atmosphere in peace and quiet.

5. Admire the fairytale East Gate

The Oostpoort is Delft's only surviving city gate and an absolute must-see. This historic gate, built around 1400 and raised in 1510, offers a picturesque setting on the waterfront. With its towers and charming bridge, it is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Today, the East Gate houses an art gallery and a residence, but the magic of the past is still palpable.

  • 't Postkantoor - atmospheric place for a coffee and treat, tasty lunch and even drinks

  • Il Tartufe - an Italian delicatessen where you can also stop for lunch

7. Take a boat ride through the canals

Want to discover Delft from a different perspective? Then step aboard for a canal cruise. Along the way you'll pass picturesque bridges, historic warehouses and beautiful mansions. Along the way, the boatmen share fun facts and stories about the city. A great tip for the summer months!

8. Discover the Delft Blue tradition

Delft is world famous for its Delft Blue pottery. At Royal Delft, the only remaining pottery factory from the 17th century, you can see how this artisanal ceramics is still made by hand. You can even paint your own tile as a souvenir!
