In this beautiful city, you can go all out when it comes to shopping, but also definitely when it comes to good food and drinks. What are the places you should not miss in Breda? That is without a doubt the Veemarktkwartier. Going shopping here is one of the fun things to do in Breda. After all, you are guaranteed to succeed here, because in addition to the larger shopping streets, you will find many small streets with cute little boutiques. What to do in Breda? Discover here the most beautiful sights, the nicest activities and the tastiest hotspots where you can eat at any time of the day.
1. Visit Breda Castle
One of the most impressive sights in Breda is Breda Castle. This historic castle, located in the center of the city, is used today by the Royal Military Academy and has limited access. Want to admire the castle up close? Then book a tour during open days or visit the grounds during special events.
2. Stroll through Stadspark Valkenberg
Close to the railway station and Breda Castle is Stadspark Valkenberg, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. In summer, this is a nice place to relax, picnic or enjoy live music.
3. Go shopping in the Veemarktkwartier
One of the best things to do in Breda is shopping. With its historic buildings, its location near the Grote Markt and hip restaurants, Breda's Veemarktstraat is very popular for this purpose. Not for nothing is the Veemarkt seen as the shopping street of Breda. The street gets its name from the wide array of fine specialty stores. Veemarktstraat is part of the Veemarktkwartier. There is always a unique and casual atmosphere here. The streets are great to explore, but also wander a little further to the more distant old streets and courtyards. Here you will find the nicest boutiques.
4. Stroll past the Blind Walls Gallery
Spread over several locations in Breda you can find cool murals that form the so-called Blind Walls Gallery, a kind of open-air museum in Breda. There are currently over 140 of them and more are certainly to come. The unique paintings are creations by international artists and tell the story of the city. 5. Take a look around the Beguinage
A courtyard in the middle of Breda's hustle and bustle? Yes, really. Dating back to 1267, the Beguinage is a peaceful place in the middle of Breda's city center. The complex consists of some 29 houses, of which house 29 is the museum, situated around two different courtyards. Once there were as many as 1,000 of them. You can take a look around but it is definitely a place where silence is appreciated. Today, the sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict and single Bruges women live here.
6. Admire the Great Church of Breda
The Great Church is perhaps one of Breda's most imposing buildings. Built in the 15th century, the church has beautiful architecture and an impressive interior. Climb the tower for a magnificent view of the city!
7. Take a boat tour of Breda's canals
A fun way to explore Breda is from the water! Take a cruise on the canals and admire the city from a different perspective. You can book an organized boat trip or rent a sloop yourself.

The interior is both classy and funky and has a homey atmosphere. Especially around the impressive bar is a casual atmosphere. The cocktails are great, but you should also definitely try the Neapolitan pizzas. These are for licking your fingers!
2. A Cup of Cake
For those with a sweet tooth, A Cup of Cake is a must-visit. This patisserie is also called the 'sweetest cake boutique' in the Netherlands. Every day they bake the most delicious (cup) cakes and sweets here. You can taste the sweetness not only in the treats, but also in the beautiful pink interior.
3. PuiCk
One of our favorite addresses in Breda for a tasty lunch is PuiCk. You can find this hotspot in the well-known Veemarktstraat. It is a green oasis in the heart of the city center where you mainly enjoy Middle Eastern dishes and tasty juices. Our tip? The buddha bowl and chicken salad!
4. In Can & Pitchers
A cozy hotspot for breakfast and lunch is In Kannen & Kruiken. In the summer you can relax in the attractive garden while enjoying a homemade lunch or a refreshing drink.
