Imagine waking up to the sound of birds chirping and the wind rustling through the trees. The morning mist slowly lifts while you look out over the vast Veluwe forests from your cozy lodge tent. This is luxury camping at its best: in the middle of nature, but with all the comforts you could wish for. We experienced the ultimate glamping feeling at Buitenplaats Beekhuizen, a unique place on the Veluwe where you can relax and enjoy nature.

Spend the night in the middle of nature

Buitenplaats Beekhuizen is located in Velp, in the middle of a hilly forest and heathland area on the edge of National Park Veluwezoom. The former campsite on this site was transformed into an attractive "glamping-only" vacation park in just one year. Since its opening in 2016, it has become a popular destination for peace seekers, nature lovers and families.

The resort offers several unusual accommodations. We stayed a the Lodgetent XL, a spacious tent for seven people. But there is more: there are Wellness Lodgetents with private hot tubs and cozy Pods, small wooden houses perfect for a romantic stay.

Our lodge tent was fully equipped, including a durable pellet stove that kept the tent wonderfully warm. A kerosene stove and electric blower were also available for extra warmth. Because the wooden floor feels quite cold, we recommend bringing thick socks or slippers. A nice touch: hot water bottles were hanging by the shower for an extra cozy feeling at night.

From hot tubs to campfires: here's what to expect

There is also plenty to do at the park itself. Restaurant WOODZ has an attractive outdoor terrace, which is heated in winter. There are plenty of play opportunities for children, including a cable car, slide and water pump.

An absolute must is the hot tub, which you can reserve for the ultimate outdoor wellness experience. And of course a campfire should not be missing during your stay. You can buy logs and firelighters at the reception, should you not have brought your own. To make the experience complete, marshmallows and hot chocolate should not be missing!

The ideal base to discover the Veluwe region

Buitenplaats Beekhuizen is the ideal base for exploring the Veluwe. There are several beautiful hiking, cycling, mountain biking and equestrian routes that start near the park. Also, the park regularly organizes different types of activities. For example, a wildlife excursion with the ranger of Natuurmonumenten 'Spot the Big Five' starts at the Buitenplaats and there are activities such as a Wild Water Walk, Mindful Walk and Sensory Walk. But there are also craft activities for the kids in the group tent.

During our stay, we took a 5-kilometer walk near the Posbank, where you'll also find the Rozendaalsche veld nearby. This, like the Posbank, is a moorland area on the Veluwe. Both places belong, in our opinion, to the most beautiful places in the Veluwe. On the Rozendaalsche veld is the Brandtoren, from where you have a beautiful view of the heathland. Here we saw deer and Scottish Highlanders.

From castles to Hanseatic cities: getting out and about in the area

Besides beautiful nature, the area around Buitenplaats Beekhuizen has much more to offer. For example, nearby you will find Burgers' Zoo, the Dutch Open Air Museum, Rosendael Castle and a half-hour drive away the famous Kröller-Müller Museum.

Furthermore, nearby there are nice Hanseatic cities to visit such as Doesburg and Zutphen. Prefer to go to a larger city? Then Arnhem is definitely a must.

Also remember Bronkhorst, the smallest city in the Netherlands

Whatever your plans, Buitenplaats Beekhuizen is the place from which you can both explore the beautiful surroundings, and relax.
