In Rotterdam you will find many original places to stay, places with a special story about the city. These impressive locations take you back in time to the old Rotterdam. These hotels in Rotterdam are not only original places to stay; they are also icons of the city and surrounded by cozy hotspots and vibrant city life. Experience it for yourself and spend a night (or two) at one of these four original spots in Rotterdam. A weekend Rotterdam is hot!

1. Hotel New York

Hotel New York is a beautiful and historic spot on the Kop van Zuid. Ever since 1901, the old office building of the Holland America Line has dominated Rotterdam's Wilhelminapier. The former administration building of the HAL was given its first tower in 1913 and its second tower in 1917. These are now two unique rooms where you can spend a spectacular night. After the headquarters moved to Seattle, the building stood empty for some time, but in 1991 the renovation into hotel-restaurant as we know Hotel New York today finally began.

Hotel New York is thus definitely an original location in Rotterdam to stay. The hotel has 72 uniquely decorated rooms where the style is based on the origin of the building. An amazing overnight location in a beautiful location in Rotterdam!

2. SS Rotterdam

Go back in time during an overnight stay on the former flagship of the Holland America Line. For you will experience how guests experienced the first crossing to New York in 1959. At the time, this ship was among the top ten large passenger ships in the world. After several years of sailing as a scheduled service to New York, that came to an end in 1971 when scheduled airline services were a lot more economical. Until 2000, the SS Rotterdam sailed the world as a cruise ship under HAL and Premier Cruises. After eight years, the SS Rotterdam finally returned to our fine city. The SS is still located in a beautiful spot on the Maashaven in Katendrecht.

Original overnight stay that's what you do for 100% at the SS Rotterdam. The 254 rooms are completely uniquely decorated in 1950s style. Explore the ship yourself and walk along the mapped-out route. You will pass impressive places and read beautiful stories about the period at sea.

3. The Cube Houses

Well-known eye-catchers of Rotterdam are the yellow cube houses on the Blaak. It is without a doubt one of the most popular Instagram spots in Rotterdam. The origins of the design of the cube houses in Rotterdam go back to just after World War II. Bombings had destroyed the city's character, so Rotterdam was in need of a new look. Architects and residents worked against the gray modernism of architecture in the 1970s, resulting in the design of the cube houses in Rotterdam. You will discover architecture, art and culture at the same time here!

A total of 38 cube houses will be used as homes and 13 as commercial properties. Spend the night in a well-known cube house in Rotterdam is not only original, but also cozy. In fact, the cube houses a hostel run by StayOkay.
