Where do I stay in Gran Canaria?
Scattered around the island you will find several resorts and villages where you can stay. Although most travelers choose to stay in the south of the island, you will also find fine spots in the north. The most famous places to stay in Gran Canaria are Las Palmas, Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, but there are also smaller villages on the island that you can definitely consider.
1. Las Palmas
Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria but is not a popular place to stay because of its northeastern location. Nevertheless, it is one of the busiest cities on the island. The center of Las Palmas, especially the neighborhoods of Triana and Vegueta, are cozy with many beautiful sights, nice restaurants and bars, and stores. One of the nicest places to stroll around is at Plaza de Santa Ana.
Don't feel like staying in one of the massive resorts during your vacation to Gran Canaria? Then a stay in Las Palmas, where you find more and more cozy boutique hotels and apartments, really recommended.
2. Maspalomas
The oldest resort is found on the southern coast of Gran Canaria. Maspalomas is heart of tourist resorts and very popular among families, couples and the elderly. You will find different types of resort, from luxury to simple and from small scale to gigantic. One of the most famous sights of Gran Canaria can be found in Maspalomas, these are the Dunas de Maspalomas. A huge area of sand dunes bordering the sea. Beautiful to see from RIU Palace Maspalomas.
Suites & Villas by Dunas
If you are traveling to Gran Canaria with children we can recommend a stay at Suites & Villas by Dunas recommend. On the large complex you will find numerous cottages equipped with many conveniences. The many exotic flowers, plants and trees on the grounds create a tropical atmosphere. There is one large pool, but you will also find smaller pools on the complex including a number of "adults only" pools.
3. Playa de Ingles
If you are looking for a place that is always buzzing then Playa de Ingles the beach resort where you must stay in Gran Canaria. You will find Playa de Ingles on the other side of the landmark Dunas de Maspalomas. Playa de Ingles is the most famous and busiest resort on Gran Canaria. It is therefore often very busy here. Naturally, you will find many restaurants, bars and stores in this resort. For those who like to discover the nightlife of Gran Canaria, Playa de Ingles is very suitable.
4. Meloneras
Meloneras is one of the newer resorts in Gran Canaria and is known for the more luxurious resorts you can find there. And if you ask us, this is the best place to stay in Gran Canaria. The resorts you can find there are contemporary and therefore equipped with all conveniences. In addition, Meloneras is located next to the resort of Maspalomas so you can't complain about its location either.
Lopesan Baobab Resort
As the resort's name suggests, the complex is built in African style with the baobab as its icon. Lopesan Baobab is a luxury five-star resort with beautiful rooms, multiple pools and great hospitality. Despite being a large resort, it doesn't feel that way because of its cozy and green design. It is our favorite stay in Meloneras and especially recommended for couples vacationing together.
5. Puerto de Mogán
The beautiful and colorful town Puerto de Mogán is a nice place to stay in Gran Canaria. Although it is a small village, Puerto de Mogán is very popular among tourists because of its attractive harbor. You will find a nice beach which, by the way, is often crowded and you can do some nice snorkeling in the sea. On Fridays, Puerto de Mogán is at its liveliest as the village transforms into one big open-air market.
