Our favorite hotspots on Mykonos, of course we share them with you in this article. Mykonos is characterized by its iconic windmills, whitewashed and zigzagging alleys and of course the vibrant nightlife, but let's not forget the insane restaurants you can find there. Greek cuisine is one of our favorite, and on Mykonos you can obviously taste it a lot. Fancy a tasty lunch or romantic night out? These hotspots on Mykonos are not to be missed!
1. Restaurant Apaggio
There are few restaurants in the world where we could eat every night, but Restaurant Apaggio is one of them. The beautifully situated terrace faces the port of Ornos and, as you can see in the photo below, is attractively decorated. While the waves of seawater gently lapping against the quay, you can watch the sunset over Ornos Beach and the harbor from Apaggio's terrace. At Apaggio they have an extensive Greek menu, but they also offer fresh seafood and sushi. The value for money here is top notch, the staff is friendly and the setting is breathtaking. This hot spot on Mykonos is without a doubt our favorite!
2. Rizes Mykonos
One particular hot spot on Mykonos is Rizes. It is a folklore farm where you can experience the traditional Greek way of life. So at this hot spot, in the middle of nowhere, it really feels like you are going back in time. You can book a guided tour at Rizes that takes you around the location and tells the story of the farm. Another fun activity is participating in a cooking class or learning to bake bread the traditional way.
We chose to visit Rizes only for lunch and look around the farm ourselves. It really is a wonderful place with insane cuisine. Reservations are definitely recommended. The location is a bit remote but combines well with visiting beaches on the north side of the island. For example with Agios Sostis Beach which is among the most beautiful beaches on Mykonos belongs.
3. Kastros
When you start delving into a vacation to Mykonos you will undoubtedly come across a picture of a restaurant located in a whitewashed alley by the water. It looks magnificent and believe us, it is also a beautiful place. The tables in this alley belong to Kastro's Restaurant where you can have a wonderful dinner. They have indoor space to sit in addition to the tables in the alley. Plus three more small balconies where you can also sit beautifully (see photo below right). Kastro's is one of the popular hot spots on Mykonos and gets booked up quickly. You can book up to two weeks in advance. Tip: reserve a table just before sunset!
4. Kostas Taverna
Mykonos is one of the more expensive Greek islands and this is reflected in the menus. This is not to say that there are no good affordable restaurants, just that you might have to look a little better. In any case, we have a very good tip for you, namely Kostas Taverna. This cozy restaurant is very centrally located in Mykonos Town and has a delicious Greek menu. In our opinion, the value for money here is very good and the portions you get are also generous.
5. Mother Earth
In our search for a restaurant where we could eat healthy, we ended up at Mother Earth. Almost every restaurant on Mykonos offers vegetarian or vegan options, but few have really set up the kitchen accordingly. At Mother Earth, however, this is the case. The menu consists of insanely delicious homemade juices, spicy teas and creative dishes. It's a hot spot we really recommend, even if you're not vegetarian or vegan!
6. Souvlaki Story
You can't be in Greece without eating a souvlaki. And there is no better place on Mykonos to do so than at Souvlaki Story. It is a typical Greek dish that consists of a meat skewer (chicken, lamb or pork) and is served with a pita bread and raw vegetables. Of course, there are all kinds of variations of the traditional souvlaki to order and try. Souvlaki Story can be found in several places in Mykonos Town and is always busy. Don't expect a cozy restaurant, but do expect a tasty, quick and affordable bite!
7. Alley Bar
If there is one place in Mykonos Town where you should go for cocktails it is at Alley Bar. This super cozy bar is located on a busy street in the bustling downtown area which creates a lively atmosphere. At many places, especially the bars near Little Venice, you pay top dollar for your cocktail. The cocktails are tasty, but not necessarily top notch. However, the cocktails at Alley Bar are very good. Our favorite is the espresso martini for which we paid €15!
