If you ask any Rotterdammer what are the nicest neighborhoods Of Rotterdam, without a doubt the emerging Katendrecht is mentioned. Rotterdam's former red light district is now a hip, vibrant neighborhood. Here you will find a mix of history and culture and some of Rotterdam's best hotspots. What we love about Katendrecht is the still existing raw edge which is typical for the city. Together with the nearby Wilhelminapier it is a great place to discover during a city break Rotterdam. Wondering what you can do and what the best culinary addresses are here? These are the best places in Katendrecht and Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam!
1. Fenix Food Factory
One the highlights on Katendrecht is the Fenix Food Factory. The iconic Fenix 1 building houses Rotterdam's artisanal fresh food market. Local entrepreneurs offer their culinary products here. Think delicious coffee from Sophia's, craft beer from Kaapse Brouwers and natural wines from Blije Wijnen. Take a seat at one of the picnic tables along the Meuse River and enjoy the view.
2. Rijnhaven Bridge
The Rijnhaven Bridge, opened in 2012, connects Katendrecht to Wilhelminapier. This bridge is popularly known as the "Hoerenloper," a nod to the history of Katendrecht. Here you literally walk from one iconic part of Rotterdam to another, with stunning views of the Rijnhaven and Rotterdam's skyline.
Spot also the many locks on the Rijnhaven bridge, nowadays also called "Rotterdam's love bridge"!
3. The Deli Square
The lively Deliplein is the beating heart of Katendrecht. This cozy square offers a diverse range of culinary hotspots. Here you can enjoy tasty fresh fish dishes at Vislokaal Kaap, French cuisine at Bistro du Bac and authentic Thai dishes at Deli Bird.
Want a bite to eat at an iconic Rotterdam restaurant? Then head to De Matroos en Het Meisje, a true household name among Rotterdammers. They serve a changing menu based on seasonal produce. Be surprised by the taste explosions here!

4. The ss Rotterdam
The ss Rotterdam is the former cruise ship of the Holland America Line and is permanently docked in Katendrecht. Step aboard for a tour, dine in the stylish restaurant and sip a cocktail on the deck while overlooking the Rotterdam skyline.
5. Hotel New York
On Wilhelmina Pier you will find the iconic Hotel New York, once the departure point for many emigrants to America. Now it is a popular hot spot for a cup of coffee and a nice lunch. It's also a great place for a romantic dinner with a view of the Maas River, especially if you end the evening with a signature cocktail at New York Basement.

6. Kuuma Sauna
A sauna with a view of the Rotterdam skyline? Yes please! Kuuma Rotterdam brings the Scandinavian sauna experience to the Rijnhaven. The four friends behind this concept, Ingmar, Michäel, Willem and Daan, were inspired by the Norwegian forests and decided to bring the relaxing sauna culture to the Netherlands. Because say it yourself: what could be better than relaxing with friends without distractions, sweating and enjoying an insane view?
Kuuma is on the quay near the Rijnhaven, opposite the Fenix Food Factory. Grab that towel, step into the warmth and experience the ultimate relaxation mode with a view of Hotel New York and the Erasmus Bridge. Sounds like a wonderful break during a day in Rotterdam, right?
7. Foodhallen Rotterdam
While visiting Katendrecht and the Kop van Zuid you can't skip the Foodhallen Rotterdam. This culinary mecca is located on Wilhelminapier, in an old warehouse that has been completely transformed into a vibrant hotspot. You'll find tasty bites from all over the world, all under one roof.
What to expect. A mix of tastes and smells, from Asian bao buns and fresh sushi to juicy burgers and Spanish tapas. Score a cocktail at the bar, choose a spot in the industrial setting and enjoy the lively atmosphere and, of course, the delectable food.
8. nhow Rotterdam
Want to really experience the skyline of Rotterdam? Then visit nhow Rotterdam, a hip design hotel located in the imposing De Rotterdam tower. The rooftop bar offers an amazing view of the city. It is one of our favorite spots in Rotterdam for a cocktail night!

What makes Kop van Zuid and Katendrecht perhaps the most special is that here you can find the nicest hotels of Rotterdam all together. We definitely recommend this neighborhood as a place to stay during a city break Rotterdam. It's centrally located, you're right in the center and you're guaranteed to have an experience like no other. The ss and Hotel New York are of course the most iconic Rotterdam hotels, but also nhow and Room Mate Bruno are top pampered hotels for a city trip Rotterdam.
At nhow Rotterdam you have the best view of the city, ideal for a romantic city break to Rotterdam. Across the street lies Room Mate Bruno, a colorful boutique hotel in a former tea warehouse. A fine place for a drink or a stylish overnight stay.
