Being born and raised in Ridderkerk, I am extremely fond of the special walking area the Crezéepolder. A special tidal nature between Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht and Ridderkerk, and that in the middle of the busy Randstad. Walking through the Crezéepolder is a must for bird lovers. Because of the rhythm of the ebb and flow of the fresh river water, this area is teeming with life. Actually, the Crezéepolder is not only a special area in the Netherlands, but even in Europe. So put on your walking shoes and discover this rare piece of nature, one of the many beautiful hiking areas on Island IJsselmonde!
Hiking through the Crezee polder: this you need to know
There is no hiking area in South Holland as special as the Crezéepolder. All the more reason to go hiking here. Keep in mind that it is a tidal area, which makes some paths more difficult to walk on. During high tide it is therefore not wise to walk on the boardwalk, it can be very slippery. At low tide, however, this is a real must-do. This way you walk through the polder in a responsible way. And you have a better view of the special effects of the natural tides. In this delta nature, as you can also call the area, you will find a variety of animal and plant species. It is truly a place for nature and bird lovers!
Tip: there are three options for parking your car: Oostmolendijk, Gorzenweg and at Jachthaven St. Joris. From all three locations you can walk right into the area.
Discover the hiking areas on IJsselmonde Island
The Crezee Polder is one of many beautiful hiking areas in Ridderkerk, but also on the Island of IJsselmonde. So you can easily combine a walk through the polder with a walk through the Gorzen. A nice tip is the watchtower on the Gorzen from where you have a beautiful view over the Crezéepolder. It remains surprising to find such a quiet and rare nature reserve between the busy cities.
