When we arrived in Luxembourg City, the first thing we noticed was that so much attention has been paid to lights and decorations! The historic buildings are decorated with Christmas wreaths, lights hang in the trees and the Christmas markets attract attention from afar. Compared to the Netherlands, the Luxembourgers have really done their best to dress the city completely in a Christmas garb, so much fun! The Winterlights Festival is the name for all the festivities and activities organized in Luxembourg City during the Christmas period. For example, there are 3 different Christmas markets. Where should you be during Christmas in Luxembourg City?
The Christmas markets in Luxembourg City are spread over three squares: Place de La Constitution, Place d'Armes and Place de Paris.
1. Place de la Constitution
The Christmas market at Place de la Constitution is called the Wantermaart. You will find more than 40 different stalls with all kinds of goodies and fun Christmas presents. The highlight of the Christmas market is the Ferris wheel from which you have a view of Place de La Constitution with its Christmas cheer on one side and the Pétrusse and the Pont Adolphe on the other. Of course, we couldn't resist taking a ride on the Ferris wheel, only to have our cheeks glowed by a delicious glass of mulled wine.

2. Place d'Armes
At Place d'Armes you will find the "Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart" during the Christmas period. This Christmas market is especially nice if you are in the center looking for a cozy Christmas atmosphere and are already salivating at the idea of delicious snacks. This is because you can find all the typical delicacies you expect to find at a Christmas market. We were immediately excited by the giant marshmallows we spotted at a stall and had to roast them over the campfire. But the real Luxembourg specialty at the Christmas market? That's the gromperekichelcher. These are spiced potato cookies.
3. Place de Paris
Did you know that Luxembourg also has a Saint Nicholas? They call him "Kleeschen" and he looks like St. Nicholas as we know him. Only St. Nicholas is not celebrated there on December 5, but on December 6. Therefore, at Place de Paris in Luxembourg City, the traditional Saint Nicholas market takes place every year. Yet we also call this market, also called "Niklosmaart", simply a Christmas market. In fact, the Christmas atmosphere definitely prevails here. This is only because of the eye-catcher on Place de Paris: a fairy-tale decorated Christmas tree of no less than 20 meters.
